How can I edit default driving routes or directions?

Edit and customise self-drive routes and written directions in the Route Builder, and save edited routes for reuse in future itineraries.

Getting started

1. Open the relevant itinerary in the Itinerary Builder.

2. Navigate to the Route Builder step.

Edit a self-drive route

Note: The transport mode must be set to Self Drive to access route editing. Selecting the icon of a Transfer route also allows minor route edits.

There are two ways to open the route editor:

1. Click the orange Directions button. This opens a list of all self-drive routes in the itinerary - select the route you want to edit.

2. Alternatively, click the vehicle icon directly on the map for the route you want to edit.

3. The Route Editor will open, showing the map and Google-generated directions.

4. Use the zoom controls or scroll on the map to find the best view for your edits.

5. Click, hold, and drag the blue route line to adjust the path.

6. The written directions on the left-hand side will update automatically as the route changes.

7. To edit the written directions, type directly over the existing text.

8. To delete a direction line, click the bin icon next to it.

Note: There is a 140-character limit per direction line when entering custom written directions.

Save the edited route

1. Once edits are complete, click Update Directions.

2. A prompt will appear asking if you want to save the route for future use.

3. Click Yes to save the route.

Note: The saved route will only appear automatically when the same two accommodations are used in the same order in a future itinerary.

Direction options

When opening the Route Editor, there are three direction options to choose from.

1. Full Directions
Displays a previously saved custom route for this accommodation combination. Open the editing window to view the available routes, select the correct one from the dropdown, then click Update Directions to apply it.

2. Partial Directions
Used when accommodation-loaded directions cover part of the route and Google-generated directions cover the remainder. The solid orange line shows the accommodation's loaded directions; the broken orange line shows Google's route for the remaining section.

3. New Directions
Creates a new set of directions between two locations, starting from Google's default route. Use this when you know a better or more direct route than the one Google suggests.
