Why photos matter
Photos influence bookings:
- 78% of travel decisions are based on visual content
- Profiles with 10+ photos get 3x more inquiries
- High-quality images build trust and credibility
- Photos showcase what words can't describe
First impressions count - Your photos are often the first thing travel agents see when considering your property.

Photography best practices
Lighting
Natural light is best
- Shoot during golden hour (early morning or late afternoon)
- Use diffused natural light indoors (open curtains)
- Avoid harsh midday sun creating strong shadows
Avoid:
- Dark, underexposed images
- Overly bright, blown-out windows
- Heavy flash creating harsh shadows
Composition
Do:
- Use the rule of thirds
- Include context (show the view FROM the room, not just the bed)
- Capture different angles of the same space
- Include people enjoying the space (adds scale and warmth)
- Keep spaces tidy and styled
Don't:
- Shoot only close-ups (show the full space)
- Include clutter or maintenance issues
- Use extreme angles or distorted perspectives
- Over-edit or use heavy filters
Content variety
Show diversity across your photos:
- Wide shots AND detail shots
- Interior AND exterior
- Day AND evening/night (if you have good lighting)
- Empty spaces AND spaces in use
- Different seasons (if applicable)

Solution: Upload 6 diverse photos forbest exposure.
Poor lighting
Problem: Dark, underexposed images or harsh shadows
Impact: Property looks uninviting or low-quality
Solution: Reshoot during golden hour with natural light
No variety
Problem: All photos are of bedrooms, or all exterior shots
Impact: Agents can't see the full guest experience
Solution: Include exterior, interior, facilities, dining, views, activities
Low resolution
Problem: Small, pixelated images that look blurry when enlarged
Impact: Unprofessional appearance, agents question quality
Solution: Use high-resolution images (minimum 1920x1080px)
Over-editing

Impact: Guests arrive with false expectations, negative reviews
Solution: Edit lightly for exposure/contrast only, keep colors natural
Cluttered spaces
Problem: Photos showing mess, construction, or outdated decor
Impact: Property appears poorly maintained
Solution: Stage spaces before photographing, update photos regularly
Professional photography
Should you hire a professional?
Consider professional photography if:
- You're a luxury property (4-5 star)
- Photography isn't your strength
- Your current photos aren't generating inquiries
- You've recently renovated
- You want to stand out from competitors
Benefits:
- High-quality, professionally composed images
- Proper lighting and equipment
- Faster shoot (experience speeds the process)
- Editing included
- Portfolio of images you can use for all marketing
Cost:
- Varies by region and photographer
- Typically $500-2000 for a half-day shoot
- May include 20-40 edited images
- Often includes video content as well
Worth the investment for properties where bookings justify the cost.
Seasonal updates
When to update photos:
- After renovations or upgrades
- Seasonal changes (if they significantly affect appearance)
- New facilities or amenities added
- Poor performance of current photos
- At least annually for freshness
What to update:
- Replace outdated photos
- Add photos of new features
- Update seasonal shots (gardens in bloom, winter vs summer)
- Refresh cover image if current one isn't performing
Replace or update any images that DO NOT meet the technical requirements.
Troubleshooting

- Check file size (must be under 5MB each)
- Verify format (JPG or PNG only)

- Check EXIF data orientation (some editors can fix this)
- Re-save the image in correct orientation
